Audio introduction

Character names

One of the most loved characters in children’s literature, Winnie-the-Pooh still offers a safe, peaceful place for children to learn to read, and learn to imagine the lives of their stuffed animals.

The Alice in Wonderland Collection

One of the most often retold stories, Alice in Wonderland can be read as a fun story, as a mathematical puzzle, or as an allegory. In our retelling, we’ll mostly focus on the fun parts, while building vocabulary. We will focus on the memorable characters who have become part of English culture, even outside of this story.

We break the story down into 7 chapters, and end with some context on Alice’s place in modern culture.

Alice Arrives
Alice is bored. The bright, sunny day doesn’t interest her, until she sees a rabbit run into a hole under a tree. Alice decides to follow the rabbit, and starts a grand adventure.

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party
Alice stumbles onto the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, a daily affair, where various strange characters sit around, uttering cryptic sayings.

The Cheshire Cat
Alice meets the Cheshire Cat, a cat who can turn invisible, and who appears to know everything but will not share his knowledge.

Tweedledee and Tweedledum
Alice meets Tweedledee and Tweedledum, non-nonsensical twins who only speak in riddles.

The Queen of Hearts
Alice is taken prisoner at the Queen’s royal croquet match. The Queen of Hearts is the craziest and one of the most quoted characters in all children’s literature.

Alice Leaves Wonderland
Alice has had many crazy adventures and now she’s running for her life. Can she find the way home before the Queen of Hearts finds her?
